The Eternal Appeal of Venice

Interview with historian Lucy Coatman

On this week’s episode of the INVICTUS podcast, I sit down with historian Lucy Coatman to answer the question, “what makes Venice so endlessly fascinating?”

Men and women from every era have found something special in Venice: from Lord Byron to John Ruskin, Richard Wagner, Cosimo de’ Medici, and even Jeff Bezos, just to name a few. The city that stole the relics of Saint Mark also produced such figures as Marco Polo, Antonio Vivaldi, and the infamous Giacomo Casanova (more on him next Tuesday). In short, it’s a city that has something for everyone.

The island Cosimo de’ Medici stayed on during his exile from Florence.

In today’s conversation, Lucy and I explore what makes Venice so unique, and highlight some of the reasons people can’t help but fall in love with it. This interview is free for all readers of INVICTUS.
